Parmalee and Blanco Brown invited rising singer-songwriter Brooke Eden to perform their feel-good Number One, “Just The Way,” at the 57th annual ACM Awards.

Their chemistry, vocals and whole vibe were delightfully reminiscent of an early 2000’s pop band. Belting separate pieces of the self-acceptance smash on their own, their voices came together flawlessly on every chorus. Eden — who recently came out as a lesbian — flirtatiously sang the lyrics, “Girl, I ain’t ever gonna try to change ya/My masterpiece, my Mona Lisa, and I need ya.”

Their harmonies weren’t the only thing shining bright: Between front man Matt Thomas’ white silky shirt, Brown’s shimmering sunglasses, and Eden’s sparkly lavender crop top and skirt, the one-night-only trio was dripping in Y2K-era trends.

“Just the Way” was first released way back in 2019 as a collab between Parmalee and Brown, and was written by Parmalee’s lead vocalist Matt Thomas, along with Kevin Bard and Nolan Sipe. After a long climb, the track reached Number One at country radio in March of 2021, becoming Parmalee’s first chart topper since their 2013 breakout with “Carolina,” and Brown’s career first.

Marking the first time a major country awards show aired exclusively as a live stream, the 57th annual ACM Awards took place on Monday (March 7) at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. Co-hosted by Dolly Parton with Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett, the show featured more than 20 performances and was carried by Amazon Prime Video.
