Pilot Error to Blame in Helicopter Crash That Claimed Troy Gentry’s Life
This is so sad...
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Tuesday, Dec. 4, that pilot error is to blame in the helicopter crash that killed Troy Gentry.
On September 8, 2017, the Montgomery Gentry singer was aboard a helicopter near the Flying W Airport & Resort when the chopper had mechanical issues shortly after takeoff. The pilot reported that he was unable to control the engine RPM.
In the newly released statement, the report reads “The pilot’s early entry into and failure to maintain rotor rpm during a forced landing autorotation after performing an engine shutdown in flight, which resulted in an uncontrolled descent. Contributing to the accident was the failure of maintenance personnel to properly rig the throttle control tie-rod assembly.”
Both men in the chopper were killed by the crash.
The new report offers the mourning family a bit of closure as they look toward the future. They will be launching the Troy Gentry Foundation with a star-studded concert at the Grand Ole Opry. The show will feature performances from Dierks Bentley, Lee Brice, Colt Ford, Tracy Lawrence, Ray Scott, Darryl Worley, Jimmie Allen, Halfway to Hazard, Chris Janson, Dustin Lynch, Eddie Montgomery, Justin Moore, Craig Morgan, Jon Pardi, Rascal Flatts, Jeffrey Steele, and Neil Thrasher. Blake Shelton and SiriusXM The Highway’s Storme Warren will serve as co-hosts.
