This classic-country gem is everything we love about the icon.

Trad-country icon Randy Travis returns with his first new single since suffering a life-threatening stroke six years ago, dropping the classically themed “One In a Row.”

Described as being “about missing someone as much as the world has missed the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s one-of-a-kind baritone,” the track finds Travis playing a familiar — and welcomed — role. With his booming-but-graceful vocal on full display, he embodies a broken-hearted man spending his first night alone after a painful split, wringing all the pain he can out of each line. The somber track starts off quiet and contemplative before rising to a lonely howl, and finishing with a pure-country flourish.

Penned by Buddy Jewell and Thom McHugh, “One In a Row” is Travis’ first new music since the 2013 stroke which has so far left him unable to perform and only partially able to speak. It was recorded before the stroke occurred but never widely released, and arrives now on the heels of his auto-biographical memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life.

The book was co-written with the help of author Ken Abraham and Travis’ wife Mary, and is out now. He’s currently promoting it publicly and will be available for book signings and fan photos at Nashville’s CMA Music Festival June 6th – 9th, and will also visit Chief Records in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 14th.
