Country trio Runaway June have taken on a mission to help American troops celebrate Christmas, and they’ve deployed a brand-new tactic to get it done. The “Buy My Own Drinks” hitmakers have just released a full-on virtual concert.

Titled When I Think About Christmas With Runaway June and created in partnership with Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE), the concert premiered on the AFE YouTube Friday (December 11), and it’s sure to brighten soldier’s spirits.

“This year is very unique. For the first time in decades, military deployed overseas will not be able to come back to the USA, and entertainers are not allowed to go overseas to perform for them,” said the concert’s emcee Scott Scovil. “This is our way to connect with them, to show them how much we appreciate them in this unique time.”

Singing from a gorgeous stage done up in festive, wintertime decor, the trio of Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne, and Natalie Stovall delivered about 45 minutes of country music to the troops in attendance. Their harmony and pure-country musicianship brought a small gift of normalcy to those who were there — all the way from their first single, “Lipstick,” to their nostalgic current track, “We Were Rich.” And now it can be shared with servicemen and women all around the world.

It’s not the only Christmas-y project Runaway June have taken on this year, as the trio just released their first Christmas EP, When I Think About Christmas, in October. Likewise, they’re also teaming up with Cracker Barrel for a Christmas feature called “Cracker Barrel Sounds of the Season.” The family-friendly holiday event will be released December 16 on Cracker Barrel’s YouTube and Facebook pages, and will also feature Carrie Underwood and Maddie & Tae.
