“Body Like a Back Road” hit maker Sam Hunt continues to push country’s limits, once again offering up a hip-hop infused anthem in “Hard to Forget.”

Written by Hunt with Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Ashley Gorley, Audrey Grisham, Russ Hull and Mary Jean Shurtz, the rhythmic track turns the old tear-in-your-beer ballad upside down, matching broken-hearted lyrics with bouncy vocals and a modern thump. But unlike many other country/rap fusions, it all kicks off with a twangy sample of Webb Pierce’s “There Stands the Glass,” further integrating hip-hop ingenuity into the mainstream — and likely introducing younger fans to a forgotten classic in the process. The new track is the third released from Hunt’s upcoming second album Southside, which he just announced as due on April 3.

“You’ve got a cold heart and the cold hard truth / I got a bottle of whiskey, but I’ve got no proof / That you showed up tonight in that dress just to mess with my head / So much for so long, out of sight, out of mind / Girl you’re looking so good, it’s driving me out of mine / Aww you’re breaking my heart, baby you’re playing hard to forget,” goes the playful chorus.

Hunt previously released the sly “Sinning With You” and Top 5 radio single “Kinfolks.” He’ll embark on The Southside Summer Tour 2020 with special guests Kip Moore, Travis Denning, and ERNEST on May 28 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
