Scotty McCreery checked in with Audacy’s Katie & Company for a recent episode of Superstar Power Hour, and the traditionally-flavored hit maker revealed some news about his upcoming album project.

Speaking via video call with host Katie Neal, the baritone-singing former American Idol champ says new music is in the works — and it may be here sooner than fans expect.

Fans have already heard the first taste of McCreery’s upcoming fifth studio album, since the North Carolina native released the perfectly-timed “You Time” in 2020. That song was about focusing on the essentials of love and life — and was actually written pre-pandemic in 2019 — but now he’s nearly ready to share more. McCreery says the rest of the album is just about done, and it should be a step forward in terms of authenticity.

“I just finished up recording it yesterday, so it’s wrapping up right now,” he explains. “This album for me, it’s kind of like going back to my roots a little bit. It’s kinda who I am, talking about where I came from, my life, my beliefs, all that good stuff. So to me, it’s kind of a going back to my roots-type album.”

McCreery couldn’t share too many details, but he did admit that he’s especially excited about two of the new songs.

“All of them are kinda like your kids,” he says, “but we have a song called ‘How You Doin’ Up There’ I’m excited about, [and] a song called ‘Carolina Sweet Tea.’ … There’s a few that I’m pretty pumped about.”

There’s no word on when the album will be officially announced, but in the meantime fans can still enjoy hits like “Five More Minutes” and “In Between,” which he went on to discuss during the interview. McCreery also opened up about writing a song for his then-fiancée, Gabi, which he sang at their wedding and went on to become a fan favorite, “This Is It.” Looking ahead, Scotty McCreery returns to the road for his headlining You Time Tour starting June 18.
