Rocker Sheryl Crow teamed up with country star Maren Morris at the 2019 CMT Music Awards, with each hit maker showcasing new music.

Morris took the Bridgestone Arena stage first, seated for a classically-minded run through the loving, colorful “Shade.” Part of her recent Girl album, the soul-tinged track came off like a low-key slow burner all about finding your soul mate and perfect compliment — with husband and fellow country singer Ryan Hurd in the audience.

But soon Morris was making way for another true icon, as Crow strolled out to deliver her latest song, “Prove You Wrong.” With both women trading verses and sharing the same big grin, the rootsy honky tonker felt like a familiar, what-goes-around-comes-around anthem.

The song features Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks on its studio version, and is off Crow’s forthcoming album Threads, out August 30th. As Crow shared with Nashville Public Radio, the album will be her final full-length project.
