Critically acclaimed country singer and two-time ACM Award winner Tenille Townes is offering an anthem to all dreamers with her new single, “Girl Who Didn’t Care.”

On the upbeat song, Townes recalls being a little girl, fearlessly “looking at the world like a big old canvas” with unrestrained imagination. The innocence was pure, and the dreams were big. Now a grown adult, the Alberta native finds herself wistfully yearning for that lionhearted spirit to return.

“I wanna worry a little less, love a little more / Barefoot in a dress, dancing on the floor / Like I did, back when, when I was younger / Making up the songs, playing in my head / Didn’t matter what anybody said / Didn’t need to be like all the others,” Townes sings euphorically on the chorus, determined to reignite that flame again.

Of the song, which Townes co-wrote with David Pramik, Steph Jones, she shares, “Something happens to all of us at some point in our lives when we start noticing the cracks. We start realizing that we care about what somebody else thinks. That we want to belong and be accepted, and we’re scared we won’t be.”

“We start measuring our worth against everything else around us. Childhood innocence doesn’t just wait around. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. But the wonder? I think that’s always a part of us if we want to remember it.”

“Girl Who Didn’t Care” is the follow-up to her 2020 Sony Nashville debut album, The Lemonade Stand. The 12-track LP, which included her hit singles “Somebody’s Daughter” and “Holding Out for the One,” was most recently named Country Album of the Year at the 50th Annual JUNO Awards.

Townes’ latest release marks the next chapter of her artistic career, with more new music to follow.
