The Band Perry show off a striking new look in the official video for “The Good Life,” matching the sound of their latest single with a nightmarish clip full of fallen angels.

Directed by Janell Shirtcliff, the video looks like it would fit right in as part of the vampire-centric Blade trilogy, built around a dark-days gathering of creepy characters. The mysterious plot begins with lead singer Kimberly Perry driving an old car into the middle of nowhere, her backseat full of ashen-faced figures sporting wings. She’s headed for a secluded spot marked by her brother, Reid, all the while singing about a guy who broke her heart — but she’s not pining for the old days this time. Instead, she’s feeling like she dodged a bullet, using not-safe-for-work lyrics to sarcastically give him his walking papers. Once the car arrives, all Hell seems to break loose — like the band have called on the forces of darkness to extract their revenge.

“Tonight on the eve of my birthday and of the release of THE GOOD LIFE I have a few things to say. THE GOOD LIFE is a story about the infidelity I experienced. I want you to know that this song was written during a toxic and incredibly difficult time in my life, but I’m singing it to you now with the voice of a woman who has completely regained a strong sense of self, rebuilt her womanhood, and is grateful to have learned so much. The lyrics in this song are visceral and strong, just as the feelings have been. I feel empowered by them. I hope they empower you to know your value, and if you find yourself in an environment where someone makes you feel disrespected and degraded, I want you to know that you deserve so much more. It’s ok that things don’t go as planned and it’s also ok to not have a new plan yet. And for those who who tell lies, who take advantage of others’ trust and dignity – DO BETTER. I’m so grateful to be here and to blow out candles celebrating another year in my good life. Thank you for caring about my story and for listening. The song coming out tonight is one I needed to make to remind myself that my life is not defined by one ugly situation, my body is not diminished by one uninterested person, and my self worth is not determined by anyone else’s words or behavior. Neither is yours. So many songs coming your way! I love you all. K xx”

Featuring a quirky, industrial beat and club-ready vocal processing, “The Good Life” was Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry and Owen Thomas. It’s pretty much a 180 from rootsy early hits like “If I Die Young” and “Better Dig Two,” but the band has been moving in a pop-influenced direction since their last Top 10 country hit, “Chainsaw,” in 2014.

A new album from The Band Perry is expected to drop in 2020, and their The Good Life Tour kicks off October 12 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
