Growing up listening to music from inspiring guitar legends such as Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, it made it easy for Ryan Kinder to want to follow in their footsteps. His rocking tone, mixed with elements of country and blues, establishes a different sound from many of his fellow artists who also incorporate the sounds of icons into their music.

In his new song, “Something,” it’s obvious to note the musical similarities between Kinder and his heroes from the soulful guitar riffs to the raspiness of his vocal. Even the songwriting behind the track marks a relatable topic that even musicians of the 70s, 80s and 90s all touched on: relationships…or misunderstandings of them.

“Well, I’ll tell you this. If you have ever been in a relationship and you didn’t know you were in that relationship until your friends told you you were in that relationship, that’s what the song is,” he explained to Sounds Like Nashville.

Beside the point, it’s Kinder’s guitar skills that really take center stage for that song and the rest of his catalogue. Thanks to an eighth grade guitar class with his best friend, Kinder was introduced to his No. 1 passion and has stayed quite dedicated to the craft ever since. Falling in love with the genius minds of Rob Thomas, John Mayer and his favorites from the 80s rock scene, he used their inspirations to remain loyal to his instrument in order to become a master at his own playing.

Although Kinder is in the process of creating his debut album, guitar and all, he really just wants his fans to be able to use his music as an escape. Whether they come to see him live or put his record on in their spare time, he strives to create an alternative state for listeners to leave their problems and cares behind. That is what Kinder really hopes he can accomplish through his music, just like that of his idols.

“I look at it as if somebody pays to come see a concert, it’s my job to make them relax and have a good time,” he said. “Just taking people’s minds off their problems for that little bit of time, that’s world-changing and life-changing in itself just to be able to go somewhere else in your head for a little while. I guess that starts compounding and compounding across the country with people like myself that are musicians and entertainers. That’s what changes the world and makes people happy, brings people together from different walks of life coming to watch a concert and listen to music.”
