Thomas Rhett Sings Playful ‘Christmas In the Country’ for CMA Special

Thomas Rhett gave the gift of a cheerful holiday original on this year’s CMA Country Christmas special, unwrapping the playful “Christmas In the Country.”

Bounding down the staircase of a cozy living room studio set to start the track, Rhett picked up a frosty white guitar and sang of loving the season. He had a full band to back upbeat vocals about Christmas lights, snow falling on a John Deere and unplugging for a few weeks of family time, and he sang it all with his wife, Lauren Akins, looking on.

Thomas Rhett debuted the joy-filled track last year, and said just before the performance that it tells the true story how he welcomes Christmas each year.

“I wrote it because we spend all of our Christmases out at our farm and it truly is very magical,” he explained.

Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins co-hosted this year’s CMA Country Christmas, which was filmed in Nashville ahead of time with no studio audience. The 11th annual TV special aired on ABC November 30, and also included performances from Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Gabby Barrett, Lady A and more.
