Country superstar Thomas Rhett may be back playing live music at Billy Bob’s Texas on May 6, 7 and 8, but he is not letting Mother’s Day slip by without spending it with his wife, Lauren Akins.

“This mother’s day in particular, we’re going to be flying back from Dallas because we have our first Billy Bob shows the weekend right before mother’s day. But this mother’s day is just special,” Rhett tells Sounds Like Nashville and other local media during a recent Zoom interview. “I mean, just getting to watch my wife be a mom to three babies […] you know, [seeing] just how much work it is being not only a parent, but a mother to three girls.”

Married in October of 2012, Rhett and Lauren welcomed their first daughter, Willa Gray, in May 2017 through an adoption from Uganda. In August the same year, the loving couple gave birth to their first biological child and second daughter, Ada James. And, on February 10 last year, they ushered in the addition of their third baby girl, Lennon Love.

“I just watch my wife sometimes and I’m like, ‘I don’t know how you do this with such grace,” the “Die A Happy Man” singer adds. “I’ve said this before, but she’s my superhero and somebody that I just get to learn from every day.”

Rhett’s appreciation for the maternal figures in his life also extends to both his mom and mother-in-law.

“I think when you have kids, you have this whole other sense of just gratefulness for everything that your mom did for you growing up, in realizing how many times she wanted to just rip your head off, you know? And she didn’t.” he reflects with a quip. “I love mother’s day and I love getting to celebrate all of our moms.”

Last Friday (April 30), Rhett released his fifth studio album, Country Again: Side A. The eleven-track project follows the Georgia native’s return to his roots with songs like the poignant title track and current single, “Want It Again,” “Ya Heard,” “Put It On Ice” with HARDY, and the lead single, “What’s Your Country Song.”
