Award-winning country duo Thompson Square are gearing up for the holidays this year with a brand-new original, “It’s Almost Christmas.”

The beautifully pensive tune features Keifer Thompson on lead vocals and his wife, Shawna Thompson, on harmonies. Sonically, “It’s Almost Christmas” boasts an organic, acoustic country-leaning with plenty of fiddle, mandolin, guitar and strings.

Keifer, who penned the track singlehandedly, shared that the inspiration came from his creative restlessness on the night of Christmas last year, when everyone else at home was asleep.

“I wrote this song on Christmas night 2019. The house was quiet and everyone was asleep and I was restless from the day, so I went up into my studio and started playing. I just started describing my surroundings and how I felt in that moment and a few hours later the song was finished,” Keifer tells Sounds Like Nashville of the writing process.

“I love Christmas songs in this melancholy space. For me these songs take me back to my childhood and all the great memories of Christmas with my family,” he adds.

“Unfortunately, it was Christmas night when the song was born so it would have to wait a year to be released. But, it’s here now and we hope you enjoy our first Christmas release. Merry Christmas everyone.”

Thompson Square’s last studio album was 2018’s Masterpiece, featuring the nostalgic “A Love Like This” and tender title track. Outside of music, the “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” duo also launched their very own podcast called, “Talking with Thompson Square.” To date, the show’s featured guests include Paul Cardall, Craig Campbell and real-life American heroes.
