Tim McGraw captured the warmth and spirit of the holidays on this year’s CMA Country Christmas special, singing a quiet rendition of “It Wasn’t His Child.”

Sporting a salt-and-pepper beard and a burgundy suit under his signature black hat, the country icon delivered his performance from the comfort of a darkened living-room setup, complete with roaring fireplace. With tender vocals and just the right amount of faithful marvel, McGraw sang of the true miracle of Christmas, while an acoustic guitar played on behind him.

“He was her man / She was his wife / And late one night / He knelt by her / As she gave birth / But it wasn’t his child / It was god’s child,” goes the reverent chorus.

Before the performance, which was filmed in Nashville ahead of time with no studio audience, Tim McGraw explained that the Skip Ewing written track was a “go-to” Christmas song, and one of his favorites for many years.

The 11th annual CMA Country Christmas aired on ABC November 30, and also included performances from Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Gabby Barrett and more. The show was hosted by Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins.
