Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard helped mark the start of a new presidency with a stirring live performance last night (January 20), singing their new duet “Undivided.”

Standing together on the banks of Nashville’s Cumberland River for the chilly outdoor performance spot, the two country stars were performing as part of the Celebrating America primetime TV special, which took place just hours after the swearing in of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. And it was a fitting setting for their arm-in-arm anthem.

Full of patriotism and written in the spirit of American unity, the feel-good jam features the blending of two very different country voices, coming together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. The superstar duo first announced the hopeful track at the beginning of the year, and they explained a bit about the story behind “Undivided” on stage.

“When I was in quarantine with COVID-19, I got to take a good hard look at myself,” Hubbard explained, referencing a positive test result in the fall of 2020 that forced him to isolate on his tour bus for two weeks. “Inspired by my faith in God to reunite our country, I wrote this song and I sent it to Tim.”

“The song’s message of unity and faith stirred my soul,” McGraw added, looking out over the Nashville skyline and praising the city’s resilience.

“I think it’s time to come together/ You and I can make a change/ Maybe we can make a difference/ Make the world a better place,” goes the track’s uplifting chorus. “Look around and love somebody / We’ve been hateful long enough / Let the good Lord reunite us ’til this country that we love’s / Undivided.”

Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard’s “Undivided” is out now. Yesterday, the United States of America saw the inauguration of its 46th President, with country icon Garth Brooks taking part in the ceremony.
