Travis Denning is giving the people what they want with his next single, sending the clever crowd pleaser “ABBY” to country radio.

Written by Ashley Gorley, Matt Jenkins and Chase McGill, the up-tempo rocker is a true getting-over-it anthem. It finds Denning reeling from a bad breakup, but finding the just the right medicine in its irresistible hook — namely, meeting somebody new. That’s been the theme of countless country hits over the years. But the catchy chorus singalong is what makes “ABBY” so special… because it’s not new girlfriend’s name, it just stands for “Anybody But You.”

“And her name is Abby, that’s anybody but you / She’ll have a bad little body, be the life of the party / Drink a cold beer too / She won’t make me go crazy, like you-know-who / And her name is Abby, that’s anybody but you,” goes the cans-up hook.

The uptempo track became a staple of Denning’s live show before the pandemic hit, and it’s now a favorite on streaming platforms and satellite radio. So fans kind of picked this one themselves.

“Ever since I first heard ‘ABBY’ I felt like it would connect with fans, but I had no idea it would have this crazy anthemic life it’s grown into,” Denning says. “It has by far become the most fun song to play live, and hearing people chant ‘A-B-B-Y’ always fires me up. I’m so excited for it to finally be hitting country radio.”

It’s been a big couple of weeks for Travis Denning, who just snagged his first ACM nomination for New Male Artist of the Year. The nod stems from the Georgia native’s first Number One, “After a Few,” which he celebrated in early 2020, and both that track and “ABBY” are featured on his debut EP, Beer’s Better Cold.
