Newcomer Travis Denning plays it fast and loose in the hot-blooded new video for his smoldering single, “After a Few.”
Directed by Justin Clough and filmed in a smoky underground lounge called Beer Sellar in Nashville, the clip follows a high stakes backroom poker game, with Denning playing a guy who’s thirsty for more than just another beer. Featuring steamy lyrics and a vocal rasp that’s just dangerous enough to drive imaginations wild, both the track and clip find Denning betting it all on one night and one girl.
“This video was so much fun to make, mainly due to the fact it was my first time acting in a video,” Denning says. “Whether I did a good job or not is debatable, but Justin Clough nailed the idea and the storyline. I think the big gamble of the poker game along with chasing the innuendo with someone that you love for all the wrong reasons go hand in hand when it comes to the emotions.”
“After a few drinks, it’s always the same thing / We find ourselves lost in conversation at the bar / Then after a few songs, the kind that you hold on / We find ourselves leaning up against my car / Shoulda stopped at one / Said goodbye, given up at two / If we didn’t wanna wind up, falling into my bed like we always do / After a few,” goes the boozy chorus.
Denning just wrapped up his first headlining run of shows – the Heartbeat of a Small Town Tour – and the Georgia native and rising songwriter has plenty on tap this summer. He’ll take part in Nashville’s CMA Music Festival in June – even scoring a coveted spot on the Nissan Stadium stage – and then visit Europe and the U.K. this October as part of CMA’s international touring series.
