Travis Tritt starts a new artistic chapter with “Ghost Town Nation,” a rowdy new single recorded as the country locked down to fight COVID-19.

Marking the first release from a new album due next year, the track was written by Aaron Raitiere and JB Strauss — and speaks directly to how life changed in 2020. All about escaping the trappings of the modern world and getting back to the basics, it’s full of off-the-grid lyrics and country-boy resourcefulness, feeling like a direct descendant of Hank Williams Jr.‘s “A Country Boy Can Survive.” In fact, Tritt says he felt the same way, and matched his celebrated vocal with a a throwback Southern-rock sound, inspired by icons like The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Charlie Daniels Band.

“I loved the overall groove of the song when I first heard the demo, but what really hooked me was the lyrics,” Tritt explains. “At a time when so much of the country was on pandemic lockdown, I think the idea of escaping to a secluded spot in the woods was very appealing for a lot of folks. It reminded me of a “country folks can survive” theme. I personally know a lot of folks that still do this regularly.”

“Well, I tell ya one thing that we all got in common / We ain’t gotta worry when the sky starts fallin’ / No need to panic when the lord comes callin’ / cause it’s all just a part of the show,” the rollicking song begins.

Travis Tritt’s “Ghost Town Nation” was produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile), the award-winning studio guide who’s also recording Tritt’s comeback album. That project will mark Tritt’s first set of original songs in 13 years.
