Following up on his recent single, “Leave Her Wild,” rising country crooner Tyler Rich is back with a sleek new song, “Rather Be Us.”

Baby look at this couple on Instagram, trying to make the whole world jealous,” Rich sings in the first verse, addressing the highlight reel element of social media and the self-comparisons that come with it. The track has a very simple structure, opening with just a few smooth guitar strums as more instrumentation comes in, building up to a pop-influenced, anthemic chorus about the satisfaction of living in the moment.

“We wrote ‘Rather Be Us’ about how important it is to not compare yourself to what we see other people doing on social media,” the California native shared. “So much time seems to be spent being hard on ourselves if we aren’t as successful, pretty or wealthy as our friends, even comparing ourselves to strangers.”

The singer went on to explain that the posts people see on apps like Instagram are just “filters and edits,” and that most rarely share about the negative things happening in their lives.

“Just pay attention to what you have, who you love and what makes you truly happy,” he said.

Rich recently married his longtime girlfriend Sabina Gadecki in a gorgeous festival-themed wedding. He is currently on tour in Europe, playing clubs in countries like the UK and Germany.
