Country Music Hall of Fame Member Vince Gill will release his first album in three years this summer, and he’s celebrating the news with a heartfelt tribute to a mother’s love.

Titling the album Okie in honor of Gill’s native Oklahoma, the iconic artist wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs on the project, and says it will both embrace his roots and explore some of today’s most important issues. Okie will be released everywhere on August 23rd.

“I thought this was going to be a songwriter record, not a concept album,” Gill explains. “It wound up being more information than I’d envisioned. A friend sent me an email saying, ‘You could have only written this record after living a 60-year-plus life.’ He said, ‘There’s no struggle in these songs, just truth and your experience.’”

With “A Letter to My Mama,” some of that experience comes to life in the form of a patient, time-marches-on ballad. Featuring gentle vocals, purposeful acoustic guitars and quiet, brush-stroked drums, the enlightened track is all about looking back on a blessed life and saying thank you to the woman who made it possible.

Okie will mark Gill’s first first album since 2016’s Down To My Last Bad Habit, and his fifteenth non-holiday studio LP overall. Gill was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007, and is currently serving as a sometimes-touring member of the iconic rock band, the Eagles. He was asked to fill in for the late Glenn Frey on live concert dates in 2017, and will rejoin the group May 26th for a series of European dates.
