Vince Gill Plays ‘Go Rest High on That Mountain’ at Arnold Palmer Memorial

The game of golf recently lost a major legend in the sport and during the memorial honoring the icon, Vince Gill performed a solemn version of “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

The country singer-songwriter was one of many who attended the memorial for Arnold Palmer, who became a household name for golf with his incredible skill on the course and his signature drink of choice (half iced tea, half lemonade). Gill brought his incredible voice to the service with a simple acoustic guitar to create a chilling moment by performing the soulful song.

With emotion striking his speech, Gill said a few words to those in attendance before playing the tune. Recognizing Palmer as a friend he’s known for some good time, Gill choked up while briefly talking about the late beloved player.

“This man was my favorite person. Not my favorite golfer, but my favorite person that I ever met,” Gill said sadly.

Many famous golfers and faces attended the memorial alongside Gill including Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and thousands more. The service lasted over two hours filled with reminiscent speeches by some of Palmer’s closest friends and family.

Palmer passed away September 25 at the age of 87.
