Rising talent Walker Montgomery tributes the quiet magic of country life in the new track, “Wouldn’t Be a Country Boy,” showing off a timeless vocal delivery in the process.

One of Sounds Like Nashville’s New Artists to Watch in 2021, Montgomery is new to the scene but arrives with with deep roots in the country lifestyle — and on the country charts. He’s the son of John Michael Montgomery and nephew of Montgomery Gentry’s Eddie Montgomery, but songs like “Wouldn’t Be a Country Boy” find him staking his own territory.

Featuring a classic vocal tone and a slow-swaying sound, both of which nod to the pure-country hits of the ’90s, the song was written by Luke Bryan, Dallas Davidson, Ashley Gorley and Kyle Fishman. It’s all about growing up in a small town atmosphere, surrounded by natural beauty and people you know by name, and how those familiar things make life truly special. But it also comes with a catch. Things could have turned out very differently, Montgomery sings, so he now lives every day with gratitude.

“’Wouldn’t Be a Country Boy’ is the perfect song to describe just how lucky and grateful I am to have been blessed enough to grow up the way I did,” the newcomer says. “And to sing a song that fits me perfectly that was written by some of my greatest artist and songwriter influences makes this even more special.”

“Wouldn’t Be a Country Boy” arrives as Walker Montgomery continues to roll out new music, following up the heart-forward “She Don’t Know” and the uptempo “Bad Day to Be a Beer.” The Kentucky native also introduced the romantic “Saving For A Rainy Night” and proud “Like My Daddy Done It,” and broke out with his his auto-biographical “Simple Town” in 2018. “Wouldn’t Be a Country Boy” is expected to be part of upcoming studio project.
