On Wednesday (1/20), the world was tuned in to the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Biden. The ceremony took place in Washington, D.C. with many of the nation’s biggest leaders and stars taking part. Among them was country music’s Garth Brooks, who took to the stage to perform “Amazing Grace.”

Looking dapper in jeans, a black button down and matching hat, the singer took to the stage for the memorable performance and even encouraged everyone in person and at home to sing along with him for the last chorus. The Oklahoma native wrapped his appearance with laughs as he ran around the stage wrapping former Presidents in hugs.

Brooks revealed his decision to perform at the inauguration during a press conference just two days prior (1/18). He shared that “this is not a political statement. This is a statement of unity.”

“We’re all together in this one,” he added. “You can’t take only the extreme left or right, it’s going to take all of us. These people who are screaming loud and we are rolling our eyes, take the time to listen to them. You don’t have to believe what they say, but we need to listen. If you don’t, you are turning deaf ears to voices in America. Listen to all of them, and then make the best decision you can.

“I would say that we are more divided than ever, so unity will be the bridge that brings us together,” Brooks continued. “I’d like to see us heal… loving one another because that is what is going to get us through the most divided times we have ever had. I want the divided times to be behind us. I want to be able to give an opinion and then be able to hug each other.”

In addition to Brooks’ performance, Jennifer Lopez took to the stage to perform “America The Beautiful” and Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem.

The celebration of President Biden’s swearing in continues in a television special scheduled for later on Wednesday. Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard will take part, singing their uniting new song “Undivided.” Other celebrity appearances include Tom Hanks, Justin Timberlake and many others.
