Little Big Town had a little surprise in store for the 2022 CMT Music Awards, debuting a brand new song called “Hell Yeah.”

Taking the massive stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena side by side, and standing atop a huge riser, the much-loved quartet unveiled a song with a comforting feel — and a theme that was anything but. Bathed in golden light and with a rustic barn projected behind them, the track uses a classic country play on words to describe a guy’s headspace post-breakup, and it’s not a good spot. With LBT’s Phillip Sweet taking a rare lead vocal, he sings of smiling through the pain, with a chill-country vibe supplied by the rest of the award-winning band.

The 2022 CMT Music Awards aired live from Nashville on CBS, marking the first time the genre’s only fan-voted awards show was broadcast on network television. The night was co-hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, actor Anthony Mackie and last-minute addition Kane Brown after Ballerini tested positive for COVID-19. Featuring a stacked lineup of featured performers, this year’s event also included Jason Aldean, Gabby Barrett and Miranda Lambert, plus collaborations between Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson, Jimmie Allen, Monica and Little Big Town, Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd, and many more.
