Country Stars Out in Full Force at 2019 Billboard Music Awards
What a show it was!
Luke Combs was the big winner at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night (May 1st). The breakout star was named Top Country Artist and Top Country Male Artist, and also took home the honor for the year’s Top Country Album for This One’s for You.
Combs has surged to the top of the country format since breaking out with 2016’s “Hurricane” – sending each of his five singles to No.1 at country radio and at least Platinum status, and he’s jumped up to headlining arenas faster than almost any of his peers. The country portion of the night wasn’t all about Combs, though, as plenty of other artists were also showered with accolades.
Carrie Underwood was named the year’s Top Country Female Artist, while Dan + Shay took home the award for Top Country Duo/Group, while also delivering a show-stealing performance of their hit, “Speechless” with Tori Kelly.
Meanwhile, “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexha (featuring Florida Georgia Line) was honored as the Top Country Song, Kenny Chesney was singled out for having the Top Country Tour and Maren Morris won Top Dance/Electronic Song for “The Middle” with Zedd and Grey.
