dick clark productions and NBC have announced plans for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. This year, the celebration will air live on Sunday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. While the date is scheduled, there is no word yet on who will host, the nominees or performers.

Neither NBC nor dick clark productions revealed their strategy for dealing with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Throughout 2020, many award shows had to pivot from their in-person gatherings to virtual or limited in-person in order to cooperate with social distancing guidelines.

Like these other shows, Billboard also had to change things up for their 2020 telecast. The show was moved from May to October 14 and was hosted by Kelly Clarkson. Much of the show was held in person, with limited stars and musicians present. Luke Combs was one of the top winners from the 2020 show, claiming three awards: Top Country Artist, Top Male Country Artist and Top Country Album. Garth Brooks was also awarded the Billboard ICON Award.

No word yet on who will be nominated for the 2021 show. Nominees and winners are determined by key fan interactions, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement. These numbers are tracked by Billboard and its data partners.

Be sure to watch the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 23.
