The 2021 Billboard Music Awards have revealed this year’s finalists for the coveted awards. Among the top honorees is first-time nominee Gabby Barrett, who scored nine nods, making her the top nominated female. In addition to her nominations in country-specific categories, she also earned all-genre nominations with a spot in Top New Artist and Top Hot 100 song.

Other country nominees include Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Maren Morris and Morgan Wallen. dick clark productions, the company that produces the Billboard Music Awards, acknowledged Wallen’s six nominations, sharing a statement that the nominations are solely based off chart performance, but that he would not be invited to participate in the show.

The nominations for this year’s awards are based on the chart period of March 21, 2020 through April 3, 2021. According to a press release, finalists and winners are chosen “based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data.” Fan-voted categories include Top Social Artist and Top Collaboration.
