2022 CMT Music Awards Moved to April 11 on CBS

Organizers of the 2022 CMT Music Awards have announced a new air date and venue for the show, after its original TV time slot was taken over by the 64th annual Grammy Awards.

Marking the first time the CMT Music Awards have been aired on CBS, the show will now take place on April 11, broadcasting live from Nashville’s historic Municipal Auditorium at 8:00 PM ET.

Revealing the revised plans on Tuesday (February 1), producers say the three-hour show will once again be packed with performances and awards celebrating the best music videos of the year — but this year has the added electricity of a huge network-TV audience. The ceremony and concert will also feature locations “in and around Nashville,” and continues to stand as country music’s only entirely fan-voted awards show.

The announcement clarifies what has turned in to a rather confusing game of musical chairs for CBS’ awards show lineup. Last year, it was announced that CBS would drop its longstanding association with the ACM Awards in favor of the CMT Music Awards, following the merger of CBS and CMT’s parent company, Viacom. Then the omicron variant hit and the Grammy Awards — which are also on CBS — announced they would postpone the show’s original date of January 31. The Grammys will now take place April 3 in Las Vegas, with the CMT Music Awards following a week later.

“The biggest and best moments in music are coming to CBS this April,” said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music, Live Events & Alternative Programming, CBS. “The CMT brand is preeminent in the world of country music, and we are thrilled that their team was able to coordinate a new date to bring this marquee event for television to CBS, and maximize the power of the ViacomCBS universe behind it.”

“It’s official: Our three-hour Nashville extravaganza will be LIVE on CBS on April 11 for the first time as part of the Network’s biggest month of music ever,” shared Margaret Comeaux, John Hamlin and Leslie Fram, Executive Producers, CMT MUSIC AWARDS. “Expect the most unforgettable CMT MUSIC AWARDS yet, jam-packed with the most star-power, world premiere performances and one-of-a-kind collaborations from in and around Music City.”

Nominations and performer details for the 2022 CMT Music Awards will be announced in the coming weeks. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
