Aaron Lewis caused quite a stir over the last few days when he made several critical comments about some of country music’s biggest stars.

“So sometimes the things that I say get me in trouble and I don’t really give a f*** because usually the person I end up defending is part of the problem, so like I said, I really don’t give a f***.  With that being said, I just want to thank a few people for inspiring me to write this next song,” Lewis told a Colorado crowd before singling out artists usch as Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Dan + Shay, Cole Swindell and “every other mother f***** that is just choking the life out of country music.”

After being called out by morning radio host Bobby Bones, the former Staind frontman has clarified his statement.

“I was just trying to play to the crowd I was playing in front of it and make a statement. Maybe I didn’t need to call out anybody’s names, but I stand by my statement,” he said over the phone on The Bobby Bones Show this morning.

Bones continued to push the “That Ain’t Country” singer to further explain his comments by asking why he “hated” the other acts.

“That’s not true at all. I’ve actually sat and gotten quite drunk with Dan + Shay. I don’t hate them at all,” he said. “This was not an attack on their character in any way shape or form. You have to put it into context. This was a motorcycle rally in Colorado where everybody was on their way to Sturgis. This was a bunch of black leather-clad wearing, older folks. I was playing to the crowd.”
