ACM Awards Leaving Vegas?

According to the Las Vegas Sun, ACM executives are looking to re-locate the Academy of Country Music Awards after 2011.

“It's a crazy thing to say we've outgrown Las Vegas, and when we moved there six years ago I wouldn't believe I would have ever said that,” ACM Executive Director Bob Romeo tells the Las Vegas Sun. “But the truth is, we have a dilemma in that we don't have enough seats to satisfy our needs.”

Romeo says that after the show’s sponsors, artists, and industry VIPs receive their tickets, there are only about 1,500 tickets left to sell to the public and for a venue that seats 11,000, that’s not enough.

“Last year, the lack of tickets available to the public generated 5,000 e-mails to our office,” Romeo said. “We had several thousand angry fans, and we need to do something about it.”

So, where will the awards take place in 2012?

We first reported this rumor exactly one year ago today (what are the chances?!) and it looks like it’s more than just a rumor now.

Romeo says the ACM has its eye on Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX. Nothing is set in stone and no papers have been signed, but it’s a great possibility that the should could take place there in 2012. If relocated to Cowboys Stadium, the event could set between 56,000 and 60,000 people!

But Vegas isn’t completely out of the question. According to the Las Vegas Sun, there are plans in the works to build a larger arena in Sin City and Romeo says that if that’s the case, they could be sticking around.

Romeo tells the Las Vegas Sun there’s another key factor that goes into re-locating the show…the artists.

“They love coming to Las Vegas. Kix Brooks can meet Keith Urban at Craftsteak (at MGM Grand), then hit the craps tables. Spouses can go shopping, you can see a show and have great dining, all in very close proximity. We listen to our artists, too, because without them there is no show.”

As of now everything is still up in the air, but from the sound of it, the 2011 ACM Awards will definitely take place in Vegas. The location of the 2012 show is still unknown at this point.
