‘American Idol’ Names Top 7 After Surprising Elimination

Sunday night (4/29) proved to be a fairy-tale for seven of the finalists on American Idol. For three, however, the night ended in misery as they were eliminated from the competition.

It was Disney night on the ABC hit show as the Top 10 took the stage for an unforgettable night, performing some of the most iconic songs from the legendary franchise. During a visit to Disneyland, the contestants found themselves mentored by Idina Menzel, voice of Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

Country hopeful Gabby Barrett put her vocals to the test with a cover of “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas. Judge Luke Bryan declared that the singer has “all of the tools” to sing any genre she chooses, with Katy Perry agreeing that she “brought the pop stardom.”

Fellow country singer Caleb Lee Hutchinson also wow’ed the judges and fans at home with his performance of Toy Story’s “You’ve Got A Friend in Me.” Dedicating the tune to his dog, who he called his “best friend,” Hutchinson was praised for his easygoing style. Menzel also praised him by calling his voice “sexy.”

Both Barrett and Hutchinson find themselves moving on to the next round, along with Michael J. Woodard, Cade Foehner, Maddie Poppe, Catie Turner and Jurnee. Unfortunately, Ada Vox, Dennis Lorenzo and Michelle Sussett were all sent home.

American Idol will return next Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
