Amy Grant’s Father Dies at 86, See the Singer’s Sweet Tribute

After a lengthy illness, Dr. Burton Grant has died at the age of 86. Father to four daughters, including singer Amy Grant, the oncologist passed just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, The Tennessean reports.

Shortly after his passing, Amy took to Instagram to share a tribute to her late father.

“Walking our dad home has been a ten year journey, taking our family places we never imagined. We are all closer because of it. I’m so grateful for my dad,” she wrote alongside a photo of her kissing his cheek.

In her post, she reminisced about the life of her father, who fought through trials and tribulations to follow his dreams and make his family proud.

We laid my grandpa to rest yesterday. He served in the Navy during WWII and these gentleman gave him the most beautiful send off. It was so hot outside. And at the end of the service some of us shared in filling the dirt into his grave. Just as we started doing this a breeze came through and stayed until the grave was filled. I imagined him in that breeze saying goodbye to us, eager for the adventure that lies ahead of him. I know it’ll be a good one.

“My grandfather passed away when my dad was a teenager. When my dad decided to become a doctor it was his mother, my grandmother, who paid his way through school. Years after my grandmother passed, I found his graduation program in a box of her things with a note from my dad. It said, ‘Mother, I hope I will serve mankind in such a way as to justify your faith in me. Love, Burton.’”

She applauded her dad’s goal by simply signing off, “Well done, dad.”

Dr. Grant is survived by his four daughters, numerous grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Dean Napier Grant, who died in 2011.

According to Taste of Country, services for the late doctor will take place on Saturday, July 7 at the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ in Tennessee.
