Gloria Mills “Millie” Chapman and Kathryn Dudley have been best friends since childhood. The two have been through everything together, including recently undergoing a kidney transplant to help stop Dudley’s kidney failure.

“I was diagnosed with FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) at 13,” Dudley told WKRN in Nashville. “The parts of the kidneys, the tubes, they scar, so I basically just kind have little tiny rocks for kidneys. They don’t work.”

In 2014, she was placed on the transplant list.

When Millie, who is the daughter of country singer Amy Grant, heard the news, she immediately went to get tested only to find that they were a match.

On Tuesday, the two girls went in to surgery to proceed with the transplant. The surgery went off without a hitch and Millie’s family shared the touching news with their fans on Facebook.

“Millie is out of surgery and everything is looking good,” wrote Millie’s dad Gary Chapman, a songwriter. “She’ll be hurting for awhile but healing is underway. Kat is in recovery as well. Thank you all for your prayers and kindness. God is good.”

Grant also took to the social media platform to express her pride in her daughter. “We are so proud of Millie’s selfless act of friendship and are grateful that both girls are doing well after yesterday’s surgeries.”

Jenny Gill, Millie’s step-sister and Vince Gill’s daughter, posted several photos to her Facebook page of Millie with her mom and of the two friends prior to surgery.

“My sister, the superhero! She and her friend are doing very well and are on a lot of drugs,” she wrote.
