Billy Currington’s New Album Let’s Summer Last Forever

Over the past 12 years, Billy Currington has grown as a man and an artist. He’s released five studio albums and climbed to the top of the country charts eight times. Billy is currently out at country radio with “Don’t It,” the first single from upcoming sixth studio album, Summer Forever, out June 2.

Billy Recalls the First Time He Heard “Don’t It”

The new project is a culmination of the changes the hitmaker has made over the past decade, a point that became apparent to him recently when he heard his second single — released in 2004 — “I Got a Feeling” on the radio.

“I sound like a little kid!” Billy told CountryMusicIsLove. “I know my voice has changed a little bit. And, of course, I’m working with different people now than when I started. A lot of that is different. Different engineers, different band, different producer … it all naturally changes.”

Billy Talks About the New Album

The new project includes 12 new tunes written by a slew of Nashville’s top tunesmiths. “There’s a song called ‘Wake Me Up’ on the album that I really, really love,” Billy says of the song penned by Josh Osborne, Jimmy Robbins and Ashley Gorley. “I was on a hunting trip with a buddy of mine who had just started working in publishing and he was like I want you to hear this song.”

Another noteworthy tune is the album’s title track, “Summer Forever,” which was co-written by Cole Swindell, Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard and songwriter Jesse Frasure.

“My first question was why isn’t Cole or Florida Georgia Line going to record this because it’s so good,” Billy explains. “He said, ‘Man, none of them are recording right now.’ … It was very kind of them because I think it’s a great smash.”
