Blake Shelton Admits ‘It’s Been a Weird Year’

Blake Shelton - iheartradio music festival

Blake Shelton was one of several superstar artists who performed at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas over the weekend.

The singer, who has been busy preparing for the return of NBC’s The Voice, took the stage for a 25-minute set on Saturday evening (9/19).

The newly single star got candid with reporters backstage before his performance. “It’s been a weird year,” he said, “but at least I got my songs coming out.”

He made no reference to his personal life or divorce, but he did talk about one of his favorite things to do: drink.

“They told me I was playing this iHeart music festival and I thought, ‘That’s pretty cool. I’ll go do that. That would be fun, right?’ ” he told the audience. “I never actually know what I’m doing until I get here and I’m like, backstage doing some interview and I’m like, ‘Who’s that on stage?’ That’s J. Lo. What the eff? What am I doing here?”

In true Blake Shelton form. he turned to alcohol.

“So then, I just want y’all to know, I got nervous and I’m still nervous right now, and when I get nervous I tend to drink a little bit, okay,” he confessed as he went to take a sip from his red solo cup. “I’m just being honest with you.”

Shelton won’t have to be worried about playing shows with J.Lo. again anytime soon. This week, he’s performing at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday (9/22) and taking over Nashville with a free concert on Wednesday (9/23).
