Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert Looking Forward to ‘Special’ ACM Awards Performance

Reigning ACM Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert will take the stage at tomorrow’s 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards for a performance of her emotional new single, “Over You.” The song, which was co-written by Lambert and her husband Blake Shelton, is deeply personal to the couple for many reasons.

“The song was really personal to Blake and it was like a cool moment to share, writing the song together, and it was the first time he opened up to me about it,” Lambert tells The Tennessean.

As “Over You” began to climb the charts at country radio, the song took on a whole new meaning for Blake and Miranda. First Shelton’s father passed away, then one of Lambert’s childhood friends was killed in a tragic car accident, and just a few weeks later, Lambert lost a dog she and her family had owned for nearly 20 years.

“It was kind of ironic, but not,” Lambert says of the events that occurred after the release of the single. “It was almost like God was sort of making this song happen for me right now because we didn’t choose it to be a single after all of that, we chose it before and then all of that happened. I really think it’s a song that makes you face the emotion of losing somebody. Sometimes it’s easy to just suppress it and not talk about it or think about it, but this song really brings that out. So many people have written into the website telling me their story of who they lost and how they feel and how this song just describes. It’s really not a fancy song. It’s a simple song about the way that you feel and the little things that trigger that sadness.”

Her performance happens to be the one Shelton is looking forward to most.

“I’m not just saying that because she’s my wife,” he insists. “She’s doing a song that is really special to me. I will not miss that performance. It’s gonna be a cool one.”

Lambert, who is known for high-energy awards show performances, will definitely show fans a different side of her personality tomorrow…but she says she’s ready to show her vulnerable side.

“I’m really proud to have this emotional connection on a show like this because I really haven’t done something like that before. I just think it’s a song that’s from a real place in me and I know people can see that.”

Be sure to tune-in to the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards TOMORROW at 8pm ET on CBS to catch Lambert’s performance.
