Blake Shelton leads a contingent of country stars booked for this summer’s Citi Music Series on NBC’s Today, a much loved live music wake-up call that is just around the corner.
Kicking the series of televised morning-show performances off on May 21, Shelton will be followed by a stacked deck of country talent. Dan + Shay, Mickey Guyton, Zac Brown Band and Little Big Town will all take turns as well, with a handful of pop acts joining in. It’s all part of Today’s 2021 Citi Music Series, and it’s been more than a year since the long-running performances were held.
Shelton’s live performance will take place on the same day his new album, Body Language, is set to arrive. He’ll be followed each week by acts like Maroon 5, Coldplay, H.E.R., Ben Platt and Cynthia Erivo, although dates for the remaining country performances have yet to be announced. The series formally began on May 6 with OneRepublic, who played to a socially-distanced crowd of nurses to honor front line health care workers. The series was put on hold last year for the COVID-19 pandemic, and in coming back, this year’s shows will follow all state and local New York City health guidelines. Some will even be presented in virtual format.
