Fans may love the fact that country superstar Blake Shelton is still a kid at heart, but who knew that his music was, too? A popular children’s music series will soon prove it by turning Shelton’s hits into soothing sleepy-time lullabies, and you can get a preview of the reworked “God’s Country” here.
Out February 4, Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Blake Shelton will feature 12 of the Oklahoma superstar’s best-loved tracks, reimagined as gently as possible. From his first single “Austin” to favorites like “Honey Bee” and Shelton’s “Nobody But You” duet with wife Gwen Stefani, each track on the lullaby album trades guitars and drums for xylophones and triangles — even an odd glockenspiel or two — with “God’s Country” standing as a good example.
Starting with a shadowy chest-thumper that showed off Shelton’s aggro side, producers turned the tune on it’s musical head — and then laid that head down with a warm glass of milk.
“We were hard-pressed to find a country artist we wanted to lullaby more than Blake Shelton,” Rockabye Baby! series founder Lisa Roth tells Country Now. “He’s not just one of the biggest country stars in the world, adored by critics, musicians, and fans alike. He’s also one of the most inescapable figures in pop culture.”
Rockabye Baby! was created in 2006 and now includes more than 100 albums. More releases expected for this year include lullaby versions of hits by Marvin Gaye, Brittney Spears, blink-182 and more.
