What’s a country star to do if he can’t perform, can’t tour and can’t shoot his TV show? Well, if you’re Blake Shelton, there’s really only one response to the coronavirus crack down — time to grow a mullet.

Posting to social media Tuesday (March 17), the hit maker and celebrity judge on NBC’s The Voice says he’s decided to do just that, bringing back the hairstyle that followed him to Nashville back in the mid-’90s. Tagging his pop star girlfriend Gwen Stefani in the post, Shelton seemed serious about the idea (he’s done crazier things, after all). But despite a chorus of approval from fans and famous friends alike, not everyone is on board.

Nineties country acolytes and proud Mullet-havers Hot Country Knights immediately shot back at the superstar, reigniting a long-simmering feud that finds this “party-in-the-back” standoff more like an all out brawl. “YOU STOLE THE MULLET FROM US BACK IN ‘94! YOU KNOW IT!” the “Pick Her Up” (featuring Travis Tritt) singers declared.

It remains to be seen where this will end up — or if mullet-sporting Morgan Wallen can steer clear of the fray — but with nothing else going on, we’ll definitely stay tuned to MulletWatch 2020.
