Blake Shelton and Kelsea Ballerini held down the country contingent at last night’s (November 10) People’s Choice Awards, with one star taking home a trophy and the other winning big onstage.

Shelton was named the Country Artist of 2019 at the celebrity-studded showcase, beating out a field filled with big names. He was up against Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, Ballerini and Maren Morris, but ultimately took home the PCA hardware. It was Shelton’s fifth People’s Choice Award, having already won Favorite Male Country Artist three times and Favorite Album once.

Meanwhile, Ballerini delivered a dazzling performance of her new track, “Club,” complete with show-stopping visuals and a powerful message.

Filled with lasers, disco balls, glittering catwalks and with the star decked out in a neon pink mini-skirt, the performance showed Ballerini as a country star with her eye on a bigger, more-inclusive audience. All about looking for something more in life than cheap drinks and cheap thrills, the song is the dance-floor thumping companion to her emotional current single, “homecoming queen?,” both of which are part of her upcoming third album.

The 2019 People’s Choice Awards took place in Santa Monica, California. Both Shelton and Ballerini will be a part of this week’s CMA Awards as well, set for Wednesday night in Nashville (8 p.m. ET on ABC).
