Blake Shelton Prepares For ‘Awkward’ Jokes At CMA Awards

There are many reasons to love Blake Shelton. One of them is his honesty.

The superstar appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday night and admitted that he’s preparing for the divorce jokes that will likely come his way at the upcoming CMA Awards.

Meyers mentioned he had previously attended the CMA Awards and noticed the “sense of community” and how everyone made jokes about each other, to which Shelton replied, “This year is going to be awkward at the CMAs,” referring to his first major red carpet after his divorce from Miranda Lambert.

The host went on to say “There’s not going to be a joke that would…”

“There’s got to be one about me and Miranda. Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go ‘ha ha!’ He’s got to do it,” Shelton expressed. “You have to address the elephant in the room.”

Paisley previously addressed his CMA Awards monologue, saying the “divorce outbreak” in 2015 was great for country music. Between the divorces and Ashley Madison hack, Paisley admitted, “It’s a good year to be the host.”

Shelton and Lambert will be in the same room for the 49th Annual CMA Awards next Wednesday, Nov. 4 for their first awards show post-divorce. The couple filed for divorce in Oklahoma back in July, after four years of marriage.

During his appearance, Shelton also talked about how Christina Aguilera’s daughter Summer Rain was not a fan of his, how he mocks Adam Levine on Twitter, and also discussed working with Rihanna on The Voice.
