Blake Shelton Sings ‘Come Back As a Country Boy’ on ‘The Voice’
And he also won a People's Choice award!
Country superstar Blake Shelton delivered a chest-thumping tribute to his backwoods lifestyle on NBC’s The Voice, performing his current single “Come Back As a Country Boy” for a national TV audience.
Featuring a thundering country-rock sound, a moody groove and dark harmony as thick as the fog on the stage, the performance was simple and straightforward — just like the life Shelton loves. Playing an acoustic guitar and leading a band that featured steel guitar, a backup singer and more, the chart-topper sang on a stage meant to look like a barn, all about knowing who you are and how you want to live (in this life and the next). As the power-country anthem finished, Shelton’s passion was only matched by the rising flames of country pride.
“When I die, I wanna come back as a country boy / No, there ain’t no better life if you ask me / If my neck don’t come out red, then Lord, just keep me dead / ‘Cause a country boy is all that I know how to be,” goes the chorus.
Shelton’s performance happened on a big night for fans of The Voice, as things are coming down to the wire in Season 21. The show also determined the Top 5 finalists on Tuesday night (December 7), and the Season 21 winner of The Voice will be revealed this coming Tuesday (December 14) on NBC.
Meanwhile, Shelton’s primetime TV platform has helped him secure another fan-voted award, as he was just announced as the People’s Choice Country Artist of 2021.
