On episode #287 of Bobby Bones’ podcast, the BobbyCast, Niko Moon joined the radio personality to chat about his new No. 1 song, “Good Time.” The tune, released in March 2020, took the No. 1 spot the week of March 8, marking Moon’s first hit song as an artist.

“I’ve never slept that good as the night I found out,” Moon told Bobby of learning of his No. 1 song. “I slept like a baby all night long. It was like this relief.”

Prior to “Good Time,” Moon had success with songs he’s written for other artists, such as Zac Brown Band’s “Keep Me In Mind,” and “Homegrown,” Rascal Flatts’ “Back To Life,” and most recently, Dierks Bentley’s “Gone,” but this is the first time he’s released a project of his own. Moon says he wanted to become a full fledged artist to feel a connection with the fans.

“The whole reason I went from being a songwriter to an artist is because I love people, I love connecting with people and I wanted to do that directly only the way an artist can,” he said. “As a songwriter, you’re kind of doing it vicariously, and to know that ‘Good Time’ has connected to that degree with that many people is such a sweet feeling.”

“Good Time” not only represents Moon’s first solo project as an artist, but it’s also a full representation of who he is as an artist. It features a sound unique to him, and Moon says that while he did feel doubts while producing the track, he knew he had to stay true to himself.

“At the end of the day, stay true to yourself because that’s the most important thing,” he says. “People can feel that. You can hear honesty in an artist. You can just hear through the music if it’s real or not.”

The single was written by Moon, his wife Anna Moon, Jordan Minton, Joshua Murty and Mark Trussell. Moon and his wife met in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Nashville together, and the two write all of Moon’s songs together. Anna shared that they even write when they’re living daily life, but she does have one caveat when it comes to songwriting.

“Our only rule is no writing before I’ve had my morning coffee because sometimes he’ll wake up with all these ideas that he’s had during his sleep or something, and I’ll be like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, let me drink some coffee and then we’ll get into it,’” she said.

The couple is currently working on new music for Moon that they’re calling “The Niko Moon Project,” and the singer also says a new single will be coming out soon.
