On episode #271 of his podcast, the BobbyCast, Bobby Bones brought on Russell Dickerson to chat about all things music and life. Dickerson just celebrated his 4th No. 1 hit with “Love You Like I Used To,” and he shares each No. 1 with his co-writers and friends from college, Casey Brown and Parker Welling.

“It’s been a long journey to get to this point and for all three of us who went to Belmont together and all had our first number one together, it’s one of those super special moments,” he told Bones.

The two also chatted about another big thing that happened in Dickerson’s life lately, which is the arrival of his new baby boy, Remington. Dickerson has been sharing updates about Remington on social media, and Bones commented that the singer looks genuinely happy to be a dad, but asked if the photos really reflect how he really feels about having a baby.

“Everybody tells you it’s life changing, but you don’t know until you’re holding a human being that you created,” he shared. “It is, obviously, the best thing ever. Not being on tour, career being at a standstill, everything, this is worth it. I wouldn’t trade this year that we’ve had.

“I thought that, in the middle of the night when I had to wake up and change his poopy diapers and all that stuff, that I’d be like, ‘Here we go again. Please just go back to sleep,’” he continued. “But I find myself just like, ‘Can I keep him awake a little longer and rock him?’”

Bones and Dickerson also chatted about the singer’s upcoming album, Southern Symphony, which is out December 4. Dickerson wrote two songs on the album with Lady A’s Charles Kelley while on tour with the group. The album will also feature his new duet with Florida Georgia Line called “It’s About Time.” He also shared that a song called “Home Sweet” will “probably” be the next single. As a whole, Dickerson said Southern Symphony is about continuing to tell his own story.

“I think I’m learning how to tell my story more honestly,” he said. “I’m not afraid to brag on my wife, obviously, with ‘Love You Like I Used To’ and ‘Home Sweet.’ I’m just trying to tell my story. ‘Southern Symphony,’ the title track, is all about these sounds from my childhood and that’s what makes the southern symphony.”
