Country star Brad Paisley dove into the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas recently, but he wasn’t there on vacation. He was there to play country music for sharks.

That’s right, Paisley is taking part in the annual Shark Week for The Discovery Channel and discovery+, and he has an intriguing, possibly-dangerous role in the upcoming TV special.

With acoustic guitar in hand and country music in his heart, the adventurous hit maker joins comedian JB Smoove and Dr. Austin Gallagher for a show titled Brad Paisley’s Shark Country. It features an experiment testing how sharks respond to sound — and as an extension, whether or not they are country fans. And since Paisley is still alive, the answer is presumably, “yup.”

A screenshot from the episode shows Paisley playing guitar underwater, with menacing sharks circling in the background, and Smoove told CMT that they both went out on a limb in the name of science. “Me and Brad Paisley attempt to see if sharks have a taste for country or comedy… so don’t miss what happens,” he says.

It’s just a small part of this year’s Shark Week, which now features 45 hours of shark-centric programming and is in its 33rd year of broadcast. Along with specials like Paisley’s, Shark Week will also feature new documentaries, a shark movie festival presenting films like the Sharknado series, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark and more, and celebrities like Tiffany Haddish, William Shatner and others.

Shark Week kicks off Sunday, July 11 and continues through Sunday, July 18, on Discovery and discovery+, and Brad Paisley’s Shark Country will air on Discovery Tuesday, July 13, at 9 p.m. ET. His current single is a country love note to Nashville titled “City of Music,” and Brad Paisley is also featured on Jimmie Allen’s “Freedom Was a Highway.”
