Brad Paisley Had A Mission When Making ‘This Is Country Music’

Brad Paisley is set to release a brand new studio album, This Is Country Music, on May 24th. The highly anticipated album features special guests such as Alabama, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, and Sheryl Crow. Paisley says the album’s title track acted as a “mission statement” for the album.

“I was thinking what would you have on an album called ‘This Is Country Music’ and I conscientiously wanted certain things,” he tells reporters. “I was wanting some really dark material, some stuff that dealt with real life, a cheatin' song like we have toward the end as well as the upbeat things.

“Like a song called “Working On A Tan’ which is about summer and is sort of a surf tune, but I thought ‘well you know country music sort of owns the beaches at this point and it's become the format of summertime.”

It sounds like This Is Country Music covers all the bases, which is exactly what Paisley set out to do.

“It's kind of my way of doing an influences album without covering material,” Paisley says. “Sort of trying to write it new with old things in mind.”
