Brandon Lay Will Never Forget His Go-To Back-to-School Outfit

Instead of rummaging through last year’s trends, Lay and his family would pack into the car and drive from Jackson, Tennessee to Memphis to restock his closest for the year ahead.

Like many of us, Brandon Lay can still picture the back-to-school outfit that he thought was the coolest look ever and yet probably still haunts him from time to time.

Lay grew up in a small-town atmosphere and didn’t have many shops to choose from when it came to picking out some new digs. Instead of rummaging through last year’s trends, Lay and his family would pack into the car and drive from Jackson, Tennessee to Memphis to restock his closest for the year ahead.

Never will Lay ever forget, though, the one ensemble he sported on the first day and where he and his mom always sought out to go to snag on of their iconic shirts.

“A memory I have every year—we drove down to Memphis to get our school clothes. I remember that being a big trip for us growing up. Old Navy. The little gray shirts with the blue truck on it. The anoraks,” he revealed to Sounds Like Nashville.

The country singer may regret his look of choice back then, but it was more about sports coming back around into season that Lay cared about. Noting that with the change from summer to fall comes the knocking of helmets on the 50-yard line, Lay couldn’t wait for the crisp air to hit those bleachers for some Friday Night fun.

“The good thing about going to back to school is at least it’s football season. You have Friday Night Lights and bonfires. There’s definitely plenty to look forward to,” Lay said.

Just in time for the school season to begin, Lay recently released his first single called “Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers” to fans. The track is available to download and stream now.
