Brandy Clark definitely knows how to move her audience, especially in the acoustic rendition of her song, “Since You’ve Gone to Heaven.”

The intimate and vulnerable song paints the picture of a family member speaking out to a lost loved one about the grim state of the world since they’ve passed on. Matching the melancholy theme of the track, Clark simply plays “Since You’ve Gone to Heaven” solo on her acoustic guitar in the exclusive black-and-white clip above. Each line breathes another goosebump-worthy thought into the minds of the listeners, some of whom may be taken aback by how sad, yet honest, the lyrics are.

“And I hate you had to leave us, but glad you didn’t live to see this/the broken piece of the family you made,” Clark coos with a solemn vocal.

Each verse also points out the decline of small-town living and how tradition has died, just as the lost family member has gone.

“They say the market’s bouncing back, but it’s sure hard to tell/since you’ve gone to Heaven, the whole world’s gone to Hell,” sings Clark.
