Mixing the rock elements of electric guitars with the country twang of the fiddle strings, Breaking Southwest uses their own unique sound to capture the essence of the newfound rock-country genre.

That means one thing with the native Texas group: no limits.

Coming onto the scene with their single, “Ghost Town,” the trio made their mark on country radio by infusing all the different sounds that influenced them into their musical career. While their music may be somewhat indescribable underneath the stereotypical country category, the band keeps a tight grip on what they like in their records.

“It just kinda rocks,” explained Kyle Gaston, who plays lead guitar for the group. “Kent’s got a very good country voice and Lauren throws a lot of fiddle down in on it. It’s a 90s rock song with a country twist.”

Gaston, as well as lead vocalist Kent Bell and fiddle player Lauren Hall, all got their start in music from a young age. Classically trained, Hall started her journey with piano and it wasn’t until college where she started to branch out into different styles of music. From being a part of a psychedelic rock band to learning the violin, she finally went back to her Texas roots to find her own at the fiddle.

Bell and Gaston both admit they tried their hand at guitar for the chick magnet quality that the rocker image gives off. After time and practice, the guys set their minds straight and pursued their musical ability full-time within the band.

Ultimately, they all came together to form their three-part group. But their name didn’t come overnight.

“Well the truth is, it was in the heat of Breaking Bad, the TV show. That term, to break bad, means to go bad, go from being good to bad. So I just liked that kind of word and because Texas is both Southern and Western, just taking that sound and us being from Texas and breaking out. That was kind of the thinking behind it,” said Bell.

Breaking Southwest will be playing at the Fontanel in Nashville for the Camp NASH Memorial Day concert at the end of May with artists like Big & Rich, RaeLynn and many others. But with the possibility of tour dates and shows on the horizon, they want to make the most of the fans and hope their music can be of enjoyment for their listeners.

“I think it’s important especially now, we want the new fans that we do make to interact with us as much as possible. So if somebody hears a song they like or an interview they like or whatever and it connects, please reach out to us. Say hello. Introduce yourself to us. Because we would like to get to know people better, especially right now when we really, really can,” said Bell.

“Ghost Town” is the latest single from Breaking Southwest and can be heard across all country radio platforms.
