If you know anything about Brett Eldredge, you know that he loves to pay homage to his home state of Illinois. Examples of this include his song “Signs” from his debut album, which is a tribute to his birthplace of Paris, IL, and the name of his sophomore record, aptly titled Illinois. So when it came time to name his new pup, Eldredge didn’t have very far to look.

“I had so many different ideas for different names for him,” Eldredge told Sounds Like Nashville. “I think about where I’m from a lot. My album is called ‘Illinois,’ and I always try to remember my roots and remember where I came from. I came from Paris, Illinois in the County of Edgar County. I always loved the word Edgar, so I named him after my homeland.”

The representative of Edgar County has quickly become an internet sensation after appearing as a staple in Eldredge’s hilarious snaps which chronicle their many adventures. However, Edgar may be a little distracted in the coming weeks as he makes a new friend in Maren Morrisdog June.

“She is supposed to be bringing her out on the road for the first time, I think, so I’m excited for the first time for him to meet her,” said Eldredge. They’re going to be in love at first sight hopefully, so we’re going to find out pretty soon.”

We have no doubt the cute pups will hit it off immediately and hope the meeting “country music’s hottest new couple” makes it on Snapchat!
